Since the onset of COVID-19, the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation has focused on providing support and resources to the Healthcare System as it responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, generous donor funding made two new programs possible and supported another project to provide targeted assistance where it was needed the most.
Increasing Support for Universal Healing
Throughout the pandemic, our area’s Hispanic population has been hit the hardest by COVID-19, experiencing a higher percentage of losses than any other local demographic. Unfortunately, limited grief support resources were available for monolingual Spanish speakers.
With the generosity of the Hospice Giving Foundation and a matching donation from the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation, a monolingual grief support program was launched for Spanish-speaking families who experienced the loss of a loved one at SVMHS due to COVID-19.
We know that grief is universal, and we believe resources for healing should be universal, too.
Making a Difference in Patient Well-Being
In September 2021, the Foundation provided funding for a Patient Assistance Program to address social determinants of health that are impacting our community, such as lack of access to basic needs. Thanks to thoughtful donations from SVMHS employees, physicians and other individuals, we were able to provide nearly $10,000 for direct patient support during the first four months of the program, helping patients acquire medical supplies, food and transportation assistance.
By increasing access to vital needs and equipment, we hope to build a healthier community for all.
Expanding Support for Children
SVMHS has been a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1989. A portion of the funds raised through our CMNH partnership is allocated to our Medical Needs Granting Program, which provides grants to children in the local tri-county area to fund medical equipment and services that aren’t otherwise covered by insurance.
When you donate to a corporate partner that supports our local CMN Hospitals Program, you’re helping to change kids’ health and change the future.
Through funding for programs like these, the Foundation helps make it possible to address the community’s most critical needs by connecting individuals with resources to protect their health.
