70 Years of Support Driven by a Desire to Help Others

Created to provide an extra dimension of care for patients and their families, the Service League Volunteers at Salinas Valley Health celebrated their 71st anniversary on June 30, 2023. The League’s initial meeting in 1952 was attended by 75 women with a shared goal to support what would be heralded as the most modern hospital in the West. For seven decades, that tradition of forward-thinking support has continued and evolved.

In addition to being the largest lifetime financial contributor to the Salinas Valley Health Foundation, the Service League creates opportunities for our future healthcare professionals through a broad scope of educational programs. It also hosts a variety of fulfilling experiences for volunteers as young as 15.

As a public district medical center, a robust volunteer program is fundamental in helping our community rise in good health. The numbers of hours and years our volunteers have dedicated are impressive, and the benefits of the human connections they offer are beyond measure.

Founded in 1952, Service League Volunteers continue to have a positive impact on the lives of patients, their families and our community.

Opportunities to volunteer at Salinas Valley Health are nearly limitless and can be tailored to individual interests. Service League members reduce stress and inspire smiles by making the rounds with Therapy Dogs International-certified companions. Guest Services Ambassadors help shape the patient experience. Individuals who have faced heart procedures visit cardiac patients at our medical center to offer support and answer questions. Lifeline and our bilingual Telecare program provide opportunities to assist patients outside the medical center, in-person and via phone. People who enjoy community engagement can assist with our Mobile Clinic’s outreach, health promotion activities, wellness events for the public and more.
