With a goal of developing collaborative community partnerships that create a lasting, healthy impact by changing the environment in which people live, work, learn and play, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, Taylor Farms and Montage Health began implementing the Blue Zones Project® throughout Monterey County in 2020.

Salinas City Council approved an updated Slow School Zones ordinance.
Food policy:
Key questions to screen for patient food insecurity now help providers offer relevant referrals to food resources as needed in all healthcare settings.
Tobacco policy:
Monterey County Board of Supervisors updated its no-smoking ordinance to include county parks.
Blue Zones Initiatives Powered by People:
5,404 individuals in Monterey County are engaged with the Blue Zones Project.
95 residents joined a Moai (social support group) to socialize and support healthy behaviors.
602 residents have deepened their sense of purpose through attending a purpose workshop.
292 residents have volunteered in their community with a Blue Zones Project, for a total of 1,375 volunteer hours.
5 school gardens have been revitalized in Salinas as part of a 2020 Blue Zones Project, creating educational opportunities and promoting healthy eating.
